Risperidone is injected under the skin or into a muscle. A healthcare provider will give you this injection. Risperdal Consta is usually given once every 2 weeks.
Where do you inject risperidone?
RISPERDAL CONSTA® should be administered every 2 weeks by deep intramuscular (IM) deltoid or gluteal injection. Each injection should be administered by a health care professional using the appropriate enclosed safety needle [see Dosage and Administration (2.8)].
How quickly does Risperdal injection work?
If you take Risperdal Consta® (risperidone long-acting injection), it will take about three weeks before risperidone is fully absorbed and at an adequate level to begin treating your symptoms.
Can risperidone be given intravenously?
Immediately inject entire contents of syringe intramuscularly (IM) into the gluteal or deltoid muscle of the patient. Gluteal injection should be made into the upper-outer quadrant of the gluteal area. Do not administer intravenously.
Can antipsychotics be injected?
Injections are usually given every two, three or four weeks, depending on the drug. Certain antipsychotics may last for longer periods when given as a depot injection. Your injection will usually be given by a healthcare professional in a community setting.
How does Risperdal make you feel?
Other common side effects include anxiety, blurred vision, dizziness, gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, pain), excessive salivation, tiredness, weight gain, and rash.
Is 2 mg of risperidone a lot?
Adults. RISPERDAL® can be administered once or twice daily. Initial dosing is 2 mg per day. May increase the dose at intervals of 24 hours or greater, in increments of 1 to 2 mg per day, as tolerated, to a recommended dose of 4 to 8 mg per day.
Does risperidone calm you down?
